Tone Touch and Technique for the Young, and Advanced Pianist. These books are significant for piano playing because they do not develop just the mechanics, but the whole art of piano performance. In this series, physical skills are developed always with the purpose of producing immediately a musical result (tone), and a sensation or feeling associated with the sounds produced (touch). Exercises are provided for specific muscular co-ordinations and controls, but they are practised for the immediate application in a musical context in Studies which follow.
The "Young Pianist" book was originally conceived for pupils of about 14 years of age. Some teachers have used it with much younger students, and some in the early years of tertiary training. In addition, the book has been used extensively by teachers and trainee teachers to gain a fuller understanding of the basis of technical development.
Both of these immensely popular publications have recently been revised, making them an essential and valuable teaching resource for teachers everywhere.
