The
SGJ was introduced in 2013 as the affordable offering in that year's new lineup, effectively replacing the
SG Special Faded, with the biggest differences being a Maple neck with 24 frets and the lack of a pickguard. The official photos for the Cherry and Chocolate finishes show Reflector knobs, although most, if not all, seem to have actually shipped with Bell knobs. For 2014, it was redesigned and joined by the
SGM, a version with Gibson's Min-E-Tune automatic tuning system.
